Hello readers of Let’s Blog, thanks for being here again.

Hi Let's Blog readers, thanks for being here again.

On this occasion we will talk about a very powerful tool in the teaching-learning process: evaluation.

At the heart of the noun evaluation is the root word value. So an appraisal is an examination to find the value of something. We do this every day.

In our area we can say that educational evaluation is a tool of great importance for the learning process. Because education is a long process and evaluation as a tool is part of it, there is a need to be not only systematic, but also constant and objective in the information it collects. All that information that can be obtained helps to guide the student based on the analysis of the results with respect to the previously set objectives. In addition to the above, it provides evidence of the progress made by the students and the knowledge acquired.

The evaluation process is divided into 3 key moments: beginning with a diagnostic evaluation, process with formative evaluation and the end with summative evaluation, we will explain each one to you.

Diagnostic evaluation

To determine the starting point, it is necessary to carry out a diagnostic evaluation that helps the teacher to realize the abilities, skills and abilities of the students. It is also useful to know the degree of achievement of the objectives proposed in the course.

Formative evaluation

Permanent and systematic process in which information is collected and analyzed to understand and assess the learning processes and the levels of progress in the development of skills. On this basis, decisions are made in a timely and pertinent manner for the continuous improvement of the learning and teaching processes. In this sense, the purpose of the evaluation is to contribute to the development of the students' competences.

Summative evaluation

Its purpose is to certify, generally by means of a qualification, the learning achieved by the students.

It is important to highlight the dual purpose of the summative evaluation, on the one hand, it fulfills the delivery of information about the extent to which the students achieved certain learning objectives. This information can and should be communicated to all actors in the educational community, students, parents, teachers and the management team, to achieve both involvement and best teaching practices. The other edge of this type of evaluation is the certification of the learning achieved, that is, a formal instrument (generally a grade) that certifies the learning by the student.

Perhaps before reading this note you thought that evaluation was only part of the end of the teaching-learning process, but we are glad that now you know that this is not the case, it is a very important tool that accompanies us from the beginning, that is why in Richmond Solution As part of our digital solutions we have Richmond Test Manager, an ally to evaluate students at the beginning, during and at the end of the course.
